"Probiotics, whether in powder form or in foods with live cultures such equally yogurt or kefir can aid diarrhea," says Dr. Heather Finlay-Morreale, a pediatrician with Academy of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Grouping. "Babies should keep to nurse or accept formula. Milk does not need to be stopped. Smaller, more frequent feeds may be helpful."

• For older children, offer probiotics in food or powder grade.

According to Dr. Finlay-Morreale, reasons to telephone call your doctor about diarrhea include:

• Bloody diarrhea
• Stool that is white, black, tarry, or red
• Aridity
• Prolonged diarrhea

Please apply bodily medical advice not this article. I don't imagine whatever medico would suggest stopping breastfeeding during a bout of diarrhea. Nor is gastroenteritis the flu. Delight don't state your opinion as fact. People please use mutual sense. My lo has had diarrhea for almost a week. Still nursing and feeding soy milk and most other regular nutrition. NEVER STOP BREASTFEEDING WHEN YOUR BABY IS Ill. That is the most misinformed and unsafe bit of communication out there. Breastfeeding is what is going to help your child and keep your kid OUT of the hospital. Breastmilk contains natural antibiotics. Numerous doctors and nurses take told me that breastfeeding is the Best possible thing I could have done for my child when he was sick and to continue to breastfeed as much equally he wanted to. They told me that in fact I had saved my kid from a infirmary visit/becoming very ill as he refuses to consume or drink pretty much anything except breastmilk when he is ill.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO Non STOP BREASTFEEDING A BABY WITH DIARRHEA!!!! The data in this is inaccurate. Yes, it is best to avert dairy in children with diarrhea, but breastmilk is Non dairy....I am non a cow, I am a homo, therefore my milk is not dairy! Howevever, I should avert dairy while nursing a babe with diarrhea. Nursing your babe frequently (every hr or so) is the best way to combat aridity in an infant suffering from diarrhea. You may give a pocket-sized corporeality of pedialite from a sippy loving cup or bottle between nursings if needed.

My 15 month old girl has had diarrhea at present for 5 days & I'm starting to get really worried I took her to the doctor on the 3rd day & he said theres nil I tin do just allow it run its course requite her formula like ever & keep upward the fluids.. Some of this can be helpful. Simply it is very dangerous to be advising people to stop feeding their babies breast milk or formula during an episode of diarrhea! Formula and milk Are fluids with electrolytes in them as well. And giving your baby pedialyte without consulting a md outset can exist dangerous.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the aid. Im gonna try the BRAT..im sure it volition help. My 8 month ane calendar week old baby got diarrhoea like iii days agone but i wasn't sure if information technology was it on the 1st day. You mention not breastfeeding, this is very wrong. Breast milk is not similar regular milk. Perhaps milk should exist avoided past the mother breastfeeding. Breast milk helps with immunity, keeping hydrated, and has antibacterial qualities. If anything a breastfed infant should receive more breast milk!

Be very conscientious to avoid any artificial sweeteners particularly polyols (sugar alcohols) such as Maltitol. Sugar alcohols commonly cause diarrhea and gas in ADULTS, children tin can be effected by very small amounts. Just today my wife accidently bought imitation love containing various carbohydrate alcohols (particularly maltitol, lots of it) and my poor baby (18 months) has had the worst diarrhea. Thank you Blessedmom for your post. My 6 months quondam son is besides suffering from diarreah for the past 3 days. We took him to the md on the very first day. Because he was completely dehydrated within 2 hours.

It is better to take the babe to a hospital and start IV fluids at once. Before taking to the hospital, as an emergency measure assistance we can requite some water with Table salt added to information technology.
